DSO questions

What is DSO?

Days Sales Outstanding — the average number of days it takes to collect an invoice after it's been issued. Lower is better. A DSO of 60 on $1M annual revenue means you're carrying ~$164k in AR on average.

How is DSO calculated?

The standard formula is (Average AR / Total Credit Sales) × Number of Days. For a point-in-time snapshot we use (Current AR / Daily Revenue). See the glossary entry for a worked example.

What's a good DSO?

30–45 days is the commonly cited healthy band for most B2B businesses paying on Net-30 or Net-45. Industries that bill consumers directly (medical, dental) typically run higher.

What are industry benchmarks?

HVAC: mid-50s. Dental: 40–60. Law: 60–120+. SaaS: 30–45. See our industry landing pages for a per-vertical breakdown.

Why does recovery rate matter?

Recovery rate is the fraction of past-due dollars you reclaim through follow-up. Proactive voice collection on invoices 3–90 days past due typically recovers 35–50%. 40% is our conservative midpoint.

Is this the same as the calculator on your homepage?

No. The ungated simple calculator at /calculator is a two-input intro. This tool breaks every component out so you can sanity-check your own finance team's numbers and share the result as a URL.

For vertical-specific benchmarks see the industry pages or the DSO glossary entry.
